The mission of the Tennessee Principals Association is to support, empower, and connect Tennessee Principals.

Two Metro Nashville Principals Selected as National Distinguished Principals

NASHVILLE, TN – April 24, 2017 – Dr. Amy Downey, principal at Charlotte Park Elementary School, and Dr. Kevin Armstrong, principal at DuPont Hadley Middle School, in Nashville, TN, have been selected as the 2017 National Distinguished Principals from Tennessee.  Dr. Downey has been selected as the elementary level principal and Dr. Armstrong has been selected as the middle level principal of the year.

Downey has been the Principal at Charlotte Park Elementary School since 2015. She has focused on facilitating positive change in school culture and climate, implementing the “JUST READ” program for all students, and improving parental involvement.  In 2007 and 2011, Dr. Downey was recognized as the MNPS Principal of the Year.  She received her doctorate degree in 2012 from Trevecca Nazarene University.

Armstrong has been the Principal at DuPont Hadley Middle School since 2011.  During his tenure at DuPont Hadley, Armstrong has focused on writing across the curriculum, social-emotional learning and shared leadership. Dr. Armstrong has served as a principal mentor in the prestigious Governor’s Academy for School Leadership. He received his doctorate degree in 2013 from Trevecca Nazarene University.

The National Distinguished Principals Program, established in 1984, recognizes excellence in elementary and middle level Principals’ school leadership.  Dr. Downey and Dr. Armstrong will have the opportunity to attend the National Distinguished Principals Awards Ceremony in Washington, DC in October.
